Sequel - Fall 2007 - (Page 15) at our best 2007 ATHLETIC WRAP-UP BASEBALL The Wolverines finished 25-30 during the 2007 season and posted a 3-1 finish, tied for 1st, at the D-I Independent Championships in Orem. The team’s 25 wins marks the highest number of wins UVSC has had in its four NCAA Division I seasons. Marcus Moore, Eli Slesk and Derrick Thomas all earned First Team All-Independent honors. SOFTBALL Utah Valley finished the 2007 season with a school record 23 wins. Heidi Boyer, Cheryl McGraw and Cari Hamilton earned First Team AllIndependent honors. Boyer earned ESPN The Magazine’s First Team Academic All-District honors. She also hit a school record 11 home runs and had 41 RBI. Senior Jackie Roberts was one of 20 players from around the country nominated for the Lowes Senior CLASS award. WOMEN’S GOLF The Utah Valley women’s golf team reached new heights in the program’s young history in March at the Bobcat Invitational at Palm Valley Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz. The Wolverines shot a school record of 310 as a team. All four golfers finished in the 70s, setting a school record in the infancy of the Wolverine women’s golf program. MEN’S GOLF Utah Valley tallied a final round 293 in April to finish second place, just 11 shots behind Sacramento State, at the Division-I Independent Championship at Pelican Lakes Country Club at Windsor, Colo. Seniors Nic van Vuuren and Chris Cole competed in their final tournament as Wolverines. While playing for UVSC, van Vuuren had several top-10 finishes, including four second-place finishes and a win at last year’s independent championship. In outdoor competition, Salifu broke the 100m and 200m records with times of 11.64 and 24.04. In indoor competition, she set new marks in the 60m (7.51), 200m (24.79) and the 300m (41.80). She was also a part of the 400m relay team that set a new school record with a time of 46.08. Bekah Poppinga broke the record in the 10,000m with a time of 36:24.66. MEN’S TRACK Chris Fogt and Zach Cook set seven new school records between the indoor and outdoor season. Fogt broke outdoor records in the 100m (10.53 seconds) while Cook set the long jump record at 24.02.25 in a meet at BYU. Fogt set indoor records in the 60m (6.92), 200m (21.76), 300m (34.40) and the 400m (48.76).
