Sequel - Fall 2007 - (Page 26) news New Program Offers Employment Services to UV Grads Career Services & Student Employment (CSSE) and the UV Alumni Association are combining resources to provide enhanced employment services to UVSC graduates. The new Alumni Career Services program will assist new graduates as they prepare to enter the workforce, but primarily will focus on assisting alumni as they look to upgrade their current employment status, weigh job offers and seek training in networking, updating resumes, interviewing, preparing portfolios, assessing interests and setting long-term career goals. “Nothing is as constant as change, especially in employment,” said Sue Stephenson, CSSE Alumni Career Services program coordinator. “Offering advanced services to alumni just makes sense.” Stephenson anticipates that as the College grows to become UVU, job resources and networking capabilities will begin increasing proportionately. “Our goal is to support our alumni in every way we can,” said Alumni Association Board President Tom Powell. “This kind of job service will become very valuable to our institution and to those alumni who take advantage of it, whether by contributing job openings or by applying for them. Genuinely, this is one way we can unite our alumni and offer benefits through our various connections to UVSC.” The new Alumni Career Services program will offer individualized assessments, one-on-one résumé and portfolio reviews, interview training and resources in professional networking and jobmatching strategies. Additional services will include counseling in weighing job offers, negotiating salaries, management training and professional development goal setting. Currently, CSSE offers the primary resource for student job listings, the UV Job Board located at www.uvsc.edu/csse, which includes listings for student employment, internships and entrylevel positions. The Alumni Career Services program aims to offer a more sophisticated level of assessment, networking and employment connection services.
