She is currently the executive producer of the College’s regular student news program, keeping her busy shooting and editing on a weekly basis. As if that weren’t enough to keep her busy, Lopez has now taken the responsibility to translate, anchor and produce the broadcast in Spanish as well. By assuming the position of anchor, Lopez is in unfamiliar territory, but she likes the fact that what you see is what you get. “I’m able to do it in my own language, everything you see on camera is me,” Lopez said. “I’m not nervous and it’s fun.” Fall semester 2007 was the Spanish program’s initial debut, but keeping it running hasn’t always been easy. FROM THE CONTROL ROOM: UVSC STUDENT VERONICA LOPEZ SINGLEHANDEDLY PRODUCES THE COLLEGE’S SPANISH NEWS BROADCAST. “My biggest challenge has been balancing 18-credit hours while editing, translating and anchoring the news,” she said. “I have multiple crewmembers for the English broadcast, but I am the only one for the Spanish program.” Another struggle is finding co-anchors. She usually relies on her friend, Eduardo Contreras, a sophomore from Chile, to help her in front of the camera. Contreras is not a broadcast journalism major and has no experience in the area, but has done well. “I’m really grateful for the support I’ve been given from UVSC,” she said. “They have really let me make the Spanish broadcast into something I’m proud of.” "Titanic" crashes into theaters.
