Sequel - Spring 2008 - (Page 29) “We really wanted the site to stand out from other university sites.” —Katie Gill, art director Rare Method was to create a fresh and interactive online presence for UVU, while still maintaining some familiarity to regular users of the site. “We’re very pleased with Rare Method’s design of our new Web site,” said Val Hale, vice president for advancement at UVSC. “Once it’s complete, the site will offer increased usability for our students, faculty and staff, as well as give our online presence a boost.” Katie Gill, art director for Rare Method, met with a group of representatives from across campus to discuss what could be done to make the site appeal to students, but at the same time still carry academic credibility. “We really wanted the site to stand out from other university sites,” she said. After several versions of templates and layouts, the final designs were presented to students, faculty and staff for input. Finally, a finished product was approved, and the result is a completely fresh look and feel for the institution. The site does an excellent job of portraying the image of what Utah Valley University is and what it will become. “The Web site reflects that UVU dares to be different," Gill said. "It is student-centered and fun, but maintains the focus on academics, while acting as an informational site for the students, future students and faculty.” An important aspect of uvu.edu is that it strives to be audience-based. Featuring an interactive bulletin board, the site will be flexible, thereby engaging users to have a unique experience with every visit. Additionally, the site is set up with optimized search capabilities. “We are really excited about the new generation of Web technologies that will allow UVU to better communicate and interact with our various audiences,” said Nathan Gerber, director of web development services. “We’ve had very positive feedback on the new approach.” Winter, spring, summer or fall, find out what the WEATHER is like on UVU campus before you even walk out the door. Read inspiring stories about how these students’ experiences at UVU have helped them achieve SUCCESS. For now, the site is limited to the home page, with all other pages being redirected to UVSC’s current site. Gradually, new sites will be moved into the new look and templates of uvu.edu. The transition will take some time, but programmers are hopeful the most visited sites will be in the new system by July 1, 2008. “There are 20,000 pages that have been actively used in the last month on our site,” said Anne Arendt, web resource director at UVSC. “In order to have all these pages converted to UVU by July 2008 we would need to roll 131 pages every workday from now until then.” And although the task seems daunting, Web developers and programmers on campus have been eager to roll out the site, and have doubled their efforts. “Creating this new look has taken countless hours of preparation, implementation and testing from our Web developers and programmers,” Hale said. “We applaud their hard work, and are looking forward to seeing the site fully functional.” With this INTERACTIVE BULLETIN BOARD, you can find information about almost every aspect college alumni magazine utah valley state of UVU.
