CHI - Spring 2009 - (Page 44) TALKING ABOUT NAILS ask Farah! Winter’s show of hands. By Farah Faulkner, CHI National Nail Manager RAIse yOUR hANd if you’re feeling the chill this winter. Aha! Caught you! I see lots of dry, chapped skin and ragged-looking nails. Let’s put a stop to that right here and now! Parched Paws? The beauty-conscious among you enroll without a bit of protest when it comes to winter hair and skin care. You masque, you condition, you lavish your locks and complexion with the richest, most hydrating formulas you can find. Why? Because you know how cold temperatures and dry air and wind can seriously deplete your looks and you’re not about to let that happen! THE 60-SECOND SECRET Sometimes harsh weather calls for extreme measures. My solution? BioSilk SilkCure 60 Second Spa. This formula contains Dead Sea salts, along with essential, natural oils and silk extracts to slough away dry skin and calluses, and drench dry skin with extra moisture. It’s a luxurious addition to wintertime manicures and pedicures and it’s an ideal stand-alone treatment for winter-weary hands and feet. Say goodbye to dry and rough skin in just 60 seconds! That’s why I advise nail clients to apply a rich conditioner like CHI Cuticle Oil to cuticles twice a day, and then work it into the skin above the cuticle, all the way up to the first knuckle. Doing so actually helps moisturize your pre-nail growth and when you do that, you encourage nails to grow supple and moist, eliminating tendencies to break or be brittle. CHI Cuticle Oil is particularly effective because it contains jojoba, sunflower and sweet almond oils. Why is that important? This natural combination of ingredients strengthens nails, softens brittle cuticles and smoothes and nourishes palms and dry skin. What’s more, the formula contains CHI Nails’ exclusive blend of ceramic, silk and nano silver to strengthen, hydrate and repel bacteria. Here’s another tip: Because the skin on your hands is often exposed, and because it’s so much thinner than the skin on the rest of your body, this area is highly prone to severe chapping and dryness, especially in frigid weather. I mix a bit of the cuticle oil in with my favorite CHIscentuals aromatherapy lotion for maxi- 44 Volume V, Issue 18
