CHI - Spring 2009 - (Page 65) HURRICANE RELIEF After Hurricane Ike devastated areas of T exas last year, Farouk Systems executive team—Farouk and Rami Shami and Shauky Gulamani—wasted no time with relief efforts. Immediately after the storm, company employees were directed to send donations to several organizations in Houston and Louisiana. Additionally, the company sent “care packages” to employees located in the three warehouses and local office affected by the storm. At a hair show in Austin several days later, Farouk Shami met a hairdresser from Galveston who had lost everything in the hurricane and instantly arranged for several pallets of merchandise to be sent to her salon in order to give her a new start. Weeks later, when the team got word that several counties in Galveston were desperate for personal care products, they donated 20 pallets of merchandise (the maximum that the facility could accommodate) and personally traveled to the distribution center to help. “I am very proud and honored that our company is blessed to be number one,” Farouk Shami commented, “but remember that our blessings come when we do our part to bless others.” Founder and Chairman Farouk Shami lends a hand Farouk President Shauky Gulamani mans a forklift in the distribution center CEO Rami Shami with young hurricane victims Grateful families pick up supplies after the storm in Galveston County where Farouk Systems donated pallets of product.
