CHI - Summer 2009 - (Page 30) TALKING ABOUT COLOR your true color Is your hair hue the very best for you? YOU’VE BEEN ICY BLONDE, raven-haired, redder than Lucy and even, after a particularly stressful month—bubblegum pink. Frankly, you never met a shade of hair color you didn’t like. In fact, you’d like to meet more. Lots more. But life goes on, and now, with your new job or new political appointment or new role as organization chairwoman, it’s time to color some sense into those strands. The problem is, it’s been so long since you’ve seen your original color, you’re not really sure any more what it is, nor are you sure if that’s even the best hue for you. What to do? The fact is, according to color specialists at Farouk Systems, Inc. although it’s lots of fun to experiment, there is really one best color for everyone. It’s the one that makes you look like you’ve fallen in love because your eyes gleam and your skin glows. When your hair is this shade, people freeze as you walk in the room because you’re just so gosh darn gorgeous. It’s the hue that, when you change it, compliments drop off and nothing looks quite right—including your go-to lipstick or your favorite outfit. Styles from the Tool Box collection. True, it’s hard to go wrong with that amazing face and magical smile, but picture the pretty woman with her signature, rich, glossy auburn hair color and then think about what happened when she sported that strawberry blonde shade in a few of her film roles. With her creamy skin and warm brown eyes, it was a no-brainer—that light gold washed her right out. Auburn is by far the “standout” when it comes to enhancing Roberts’ movie star beauty. On the other hand, consider bombshell Scarlett Johansson. The creamy vanilla blonde that she’s best known for brings her porcelain complexion to life and produces her trademark dewy glow. When she experiments with darker or redder hues, that glow is truly diminished. Nature’s Way How do you find your best, true color? Nature generally knows best, so many professional stylists will often start a color consultation by asking clients what color hair they had as a little kid. Generally this hue is a good launching point. Of course, your complexion and lifestyle change over time, so the corn silk blonde that made you look so cute in those family photos might not be the best choice today. But it does provide a clue that as an adult, a spicy ginger hue might not be the best choice for you! >> page 32 Vera Anderson/WireImage.com Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.com Julia Roberts is a standout in this auburn hue.
