CHI Spring 2008 - (Page 30) ARTIST PROFILE Say “G’day” to Mickey from Oz. YOU WOULDN’T THINK that a boy from Oz could find the right, mellow vibe in the northern hemisphere, but hair stylist Mickey S. has located the ideal mix of laid-back and chic in his adopted city of Toronto. Meet this salon owner and hair show “rock star” and find out what he says to all the girls with long hair. Artist: Mickey S. a.k.a. Mickey Svircevic Hair stylist since: “I was 13 years old. I got kicked out of school for stealing my teacher’s car so I went to work in a top salon in Sydney. Now I’m 38.” Day job: Owner, Mane Society salon, Toronto On the side: Farouk Systems Group Executive Artist and television and radio beauty expert. Instantly recognizable because of: His signature cowboy hat and flowing curls. Loves the stage because: “It’s my way of being a rock star!” Specializes in: Long hair. “Most hairdressers do two basic cuts on long hair. I have designed a bunch of different cuts, styles and color patterns to help them satisfy these customers.” Photos courtesy of Mickey S. Known for: The Down Under Cut—flipping the hair over and layering it from underneath. “It’s simple and it works.” Best advice for clients: “Silk, silk, silk! Hair should be soft; it should flow like fine fabric. Products containing silk, like BioSilk Silk Therapy®, help create touchable texture.” Beauty secret: “Wash hair every day with conditioner and every other day with shampoo, especially if your hair is curly. If it’s straight, do the same thing unless it’s extremely oily. Rinse the conditioner with super hot water so that it doesn’t remain on the hair and make it look filmy or dull.” Simply the best: BioSilk® Molding Silk and CHI® Shine Infusion. My staff would describe me as: “Crazy! We have a milliondollar salon and I’m loud and laughing and standing around in a cowboy hat and a T-shirt!” Best part about the job: “I’m not saving lives but I’m helping people feel beautiful. I think I’m doing something right!” n 30 Volume IV, Issue 14
