Why not brush off that malaise with a New Year’s resolution that says: “I’m due for a redo.” “At the holidays, a lot of times people play it safe,” observes Farouk Systems Group Artist Bradley Tuggle, co-owner of two Avanti Salon and Spa locations in North Carolina. “No one wants to take a chance on screwing up their hair for the holiday parties.” style suits you. “You need that long, sexy look to pull it off,” cautions Tuggle. “If you have that, go for it!” For those who decline, Tuggle offers an alternative: the bob. A perennial favorite and the ultimate wearable look, the bob has come bounding back for 2008. Make it your own with layers, bangs or an interesting part. Strategic cuts Even post-holiday you may not be in the mood to do something radical. “People wait until spring to take inches off their hair,” comments stylist and Farouk Systems Group Educator Jennifer Piercy, who plans to open Hair Options Salon this summer in McKinney, Texas. So keep your length if you want to; that doesn’t mean you have to settle for same old, same old. “Ask your hairdresser to pop in some strategic layers,” suggests Tuggle. “Plump up your look with layers that make the crown lighter, or carve out some length on the sides.” Posh Spice’s look continues to reign as the trendy short cut. (Recently she switched from blonde to a brunette version.) You have a few months before you may want to go super-blonde; meanwhile have some fun with your color! “Try a dark blonde or a light brown shade, and add beautiful splashes of blonde or even red,” Piercy suggests. “Focus on the area around your face, since so many people look pale at this time of year. Here in Dallas, women are in dresses, high heels and strong colors. I think this will be an exciting season and a really beautiful time in the fashion world.” 53
