CHI - Summer 2008 - (Page 30) ARTIST PROFILE Hair, all photos by Jaime Lee The Doctor is In Jaime Lee’s Extreme Makeover—Hair Edition. Artist: Jaime Lee, Master Hair Designer, Style FX Hair Studio, Madison, WI Why we called him: His long-time client, Anita Wilson, sent us a letter, describing how she turned to him after a life-threatening brain surgery. He transformed her half-shaved, post-surgical hair into a beautiful style that left even her doctors wondering how he did it. Honesty is the best policy: “My clients know that I care about them and I’m genuinely interested in what they have to say to me. They also know that I won’t do something that I don’t honestly think will look good on them. I know they won’t be happy.” On the side: Jaime is a passionate educator (before returning to his home state of Wisconsin, he served as the Artistic Director for the well-known Teddie Kossof Salon & Spa in Chicago, and established all of their educational programs.) Recently, he completed his certification as a Farouk Color Specialist. “Can’t live without” product: “CHI® Ionic Haircolor. We originally started using it in the salon because my boss has asthma and can’t work with products containing ammonia, which is in nearly every other brand of color. Now she can do every color service and everyone in the salon can’t say enough about it.” Jaime’s rules for success: “Work together as a team in the salon; bring new ideas to your clients; offer products that will make it easy for your customers to re-create your work at home and above all stay fresh—never let your work stagnate!” Jaime Lee So how did he do it? Think clever comb-over. “She had long, thick, curly hair, so I simply parted it on the side where she still had hair, layered it a bit and brought it over the shaved part.” (He’s being modest.) What Anita says: “Instead of doing what so many other hair stylists would have done— shave off the other half of my hair—he worked with what I had left. He also used deep conditioners and other products to heal the damaged hair. I was thrilled and relieved not to need a wig. Besides that, I ended up looking better than ever!” 30 Volume IV, Issue 15
