CHI - Summer 2008 - (Page 40) TALKING ABOUT STYLE spring beauty prep Ready your hair, skin, nails and body for the warm weather ahead. IT’S TRANSITION TIME, FROM WINTER TO SPRING. Yanking off our ski caps, socks and mittens reveals brittle hair, patchy skin and peeling nails. We may even notice a thin coat of fur that we’ve been neglecting. Yet as bad as we look, we may feel even worse. We itch even in places we can’t reach. Leftover hangnails still sting from being tugged by wool. Can hair hurt? Somehow it does at this time of year, all the way from flaky scalp to split ends. Quicker than a grasshopper’s leap across new grass, help is on the way! At the salon, dull hair, rough skin and broken nails will give way to the suppleness of spring. Hair stylists, estheticians and nail techs will help you to cleanse, moisturize and buff your way to warm weather beauty. at-home to pamper your skin with moisture and nutrition. Rinse and you’re ready to face the new season! Your body. Your body is a bit tougher and can usually handle a thorough scrub. It’s a good idea to have your first post-winter body scrub done at a spa, and after that you can do a lot right in the shower with BioSilk® Silk Body Wash, which cleanses gently and contains moisturizing ingredients to rejuvenate the skin. Use a sponge or loofah to remove dead cells and continue the exfoliating process you began with the spa treatment. After showering, a daily application of BioSilk® Silk Moisturizing Lotion will keep your skin poised for the skirts and tank tops to come. ■ step 1: cast off the dryness Hydrating and exfoliating are the first twin goals to get the skin past winter’s bite. But where to start? Since it is the largest organ in the body, it shouldn’t surprise us that, head to toe, skin is everywhere! ■ Your face. At the spa, set up a monthly schedule of deep-conditioning, exfoliating facials. This routine will carry you past spring and into the sun-drenched summer season. At home, nothing hastens a new spring face like a masque. Turn off the phone, dim the lights, put your feet up and relax for 20 minutes or so as your masque works like a spa- ■ Your hands. A spa manicure always feels great once glove season has passed. In addition, treat your hard-working hands to a paraffin treatment. “Paraffin works on joint stiffness that may have developed during the winter,” says Farouk educator Martha Watts, owner of Martha’s Premiere Multicultural Salon Spa in Milwaukee. “Come into the spa so we can give you a good hand massage and stretch out those joints.” For healthy nails that will grow throughout the season, try the new CHI® Ceramic Cuticle Oil, which contains essential oils and promotes nail growth and strength. It will prevent nails from becoming dry and brittle. Apply it to the cuticle; then massage it in over the whole nail. 40 Volume IV, Issue 15
