CHI - Summer 2008 - (Page 50) ■ Tint tricks. Hair color and highlights add volume instantly. Multi-dimensional color gives hair visual depth, while the actual color will bump up your natural texture. ■ Kindest cuts. Layers offer ready-made lift. For maximum fullness, says Gulamani, ask your hairdresser for short layers at the crown of the head. For a more graduated, subtle lift, opt for longer layers. ■ Sleepwear. For fullness in the morning, start the night before. Apply a volumizer to damp strands, gather all of your hair on the top of your head in a loose ponytail (be sure the band is coated with a soft fabric to avoid creating a crease) and turn in. When you wake up, remove the band, shake out your hair and say good day to mega volume! BODY beautiful 50 ■ Get healthy. Shiny, strong, fit hair always looks more luxe than broken, damaged strands. Choose the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type—if it’s damaged, go with a gentle cleanser and a rich, moisturizing treatment. ■ Spare the top. If your hair is fine and lacks volume, says Gulamani, concentrate conditioners, volumizing lotions and gels mostly on the ends to avoid weighing it down. ■ Flip it. Blow your hair dry upside down, with your head flipped over and the heat directed at the roots. Then lift your head up to complete styling. ■ Power Spray. If your hair tends to collapse on top, use the same technique when applying hair spray and volumizing root boosters—flip your head over and hit the roots. Volume IV, Issue 15
