CHI - Summer 2008 - (Page 59) Farouk Systems Show Director Lisa Marie and Regional Sales Manager Dora Gandara, plus make-up artists Bryan Lynde (Uma Thurman, the casts of Smallville, One Tree Hill and Gilmore Girls) and Chris Newburg, who specializes in make-up for New York fashion shoots, reveal simple fixes that truly transform. how to look: 10 years younger HAIR ■ get out of your rut. If your hair looks exactly the same as it did in your high school yearbook portrait, you’re not really holding onto your youth. That Gidget-inspired flip, or the ’80s faux-hawk that got you past the velvet ropes at CBGB, are actually broadcasting your age by freezing your look in a specific moment in time. Talk to your stylist about an update that flatters the woman you are right now, not the girl you were back then. ■ warm it up. Covering gray hair is a nobrainer, but what many women don’t realize is that as time goes by, hair and skin tend to dull. So not only is it important to cover the silver strands, but it’s often prudent to switch to a warmer hue that will brighten your appearance. “You can even camouflage the gray by lightening your base color a bit, so there isn’t as much contrast between the pepper and the salt,” says Gandara. “Ask your stylist to create a warm tone and it will lighten up your complexion.” ■ avoid the stiff stuff. If you like short hair, opt for a cut that moves, with lots of perky, face-framing layers and a soft neckline. If you prefer longer hair, a layered cut will also give you flattering styling options. When styling your ‘do, put aside the firm hair sprays and opt for flexible formulas like CHI® Infra Texture for a fashion-forward finish. ■ Shine on. Shiny hair is youthful hair, so a glossy, reflective surface is critical. Talk to your stylist about CHI® Ionic Permanent Shine Hair Color—it’s nondamaging and contains silk and ceramic for massive amounts of shine. And before heading out the door, spritz strands with CHI® Shine Infusion Thermal Polishing Spray—it’s an indispensable shineenhancer on every photo shoot and film set in Hollywood! MAKE-UP ■ take a powder. Go easy on the powdery stuff, especially if you have some lines and wrinkles. “Powder absorbs the moisture that your skin needs for that youthful glow,” explains Lynde, “and it tends to settle in lines and creases.” ■ curl up. Invest in a great eyelash curler. If you use it regularly, your eyes will look wider and brighter, and you won’t have to wear tons of heavy-looking (and aging) eye make-up. ■ lip tip. Line lips with a creamy pencil in a neutral color. Concentrate on the peaks of the lips, and stay away from the corners if your mouth tends to droop. Finish with a sheer, moisturizing lipstick—mattes are too thick and will gather in lip creases, and lip glosses don’t offer enough color saturation. ■ dream creams. Cream blushes are the best choice for a youthful appearance— they provide skin with more moisture and produce a supple, resilient look. Try placing a cheek highlighter along the cheekbone, above your blush—it will make your face look firmer and tauter. continued Volume IV, Issue 15 59
