CHI - Winter 2007 - (Page 6) LETTER FROM YOUR HAIRDRESSER AT THE SALON, WE DEFINE AUTUMN as that brief reprieve between beach hair and hat hair. The fresh fall breeze puffs out the scorching sun, stinging salt air and unforgiving chlorine but before long, that breeze gathers a billowing chill that sends you, chafed and patchy, into the dry, itchy heat of the indoors. These precious few months of light jackets and goldleafed trees give us the opportunity to prepare you for what’s coming, whether your next act is snow-hugging ski bunny or stunning knockout by the fireplace. First, let’s get your hair in shape. We’ll lop off the brittle, frayed ends of summer and give you a fresh, fall look that will take you into the next season. A hair color change or even just a few coppery lowlights will brighten your complexion and catch the mood of the rich-hued sweaters and leather belts that you’ll be pulling out of drawers and closets. Most important, remember two key words to help your hair gracefully handle both the damp outdoors and the dry indoors: moisture and strength. A deep-conditioning treatment will restore the bounce and shine that faded away with the last breath of summer. A scalp treatment can further revive those lazy hair follicles—plus, there’s nothing like a great scalp massage to ease you into your autumn routine. Moisturizing is just as important when it comes to your skin. Try a hydrating facial at the salon, and at home use an exfoliating shower gel to say “flake off” to flakiness. One more important word that tends to get left behind when summer ends: sunblock. A moisturizing, SPF 15 foundation can help you keep your skin moist, protected and evened out as the tan and freckles disappear into summer’s sweet memory. If you miss the glow, a lightweight bronzing gel works wonders! You’ll have to wait until spring to use up your sheer lipsticks and nail colors. This is no time to be pastel and demure when bold berry tones and metallics bring the drama, so you don’t have to. Have fun at the manicure table selecting from among this season’s newest shades. Nothing says “winter romance” better than beautiful eyes that invite—indeed, demand—stealthy glances that ultimately give way to smoldering, penetrating gazes. There’s no room for greens and blues on those lilting lids; go for smokier hues in gray and brown. Pencil-thin brows are over, but letting them run wild isn’t the answer! Ask a professional for a brow shaping that flatters your face, not that of some celebrity. Before you leave the salon, book all of your next appointments—the brow shaping, manicure, facial, hair cut and color. We want to make sure you shine throughout the fall and get in when you want during the busy holiday season, which will be here before you know it!
