That’s why this trend toward craft, which is also really strong in apparel, is emerging in the home category.” In terms of color trends, Adams said he believes a nature-inspired palette is the logical choice in the near term. Browns, greens and blues ranging from spa to turquoise will be key in the Currey & Co. lineup, supplemented by a jaunty black-and-white combination. As for finishes, a “drier, natural look” will be highlighted as opposed to the rich, dark finishes that have been so prominent the last few years. The dry, natural finish will be noticeable on a variety of products, including accent tables, a new category for the company. “We introduced a fairly large occasional table collection, and now we’re looking at other categories, such as mirrors and wall sculptures, as well as the whole table category,” Adams explained. “All will match up with our core competencies of metalwork, woodwork and finishing.” Simplicity chandelier is constructed from bleached wood with a slightly washed finish. natural selections Cecil Adams Since Cecil Adams’ spring appointment to creative visionary for Currey & Co., he’s been hard at work finalizing designs for new products slated to hit the market in 2010. Adams has more than 20 years of experience in the home furnishings industry, including visual merchandising for Dillard’s department stores; managing an international creative team for Trade Am Intl.; and, most recently, launching Studio ConFab, a design and consulting company through which he worked with Candice Olson on licensed product lines. “My eye is having an effect on our line, as I edit the product designs we have and shape the direction in terms of colors and style trends,” Adams said of his tenure as Creative Director for Currey & Co. One of the most important design directions that Currey & Co. will explore going forward is a more natural, handcrafted look, a prominent style at Paris’ Maison & Objet, one of Adams’ favorite trend-spotting venues. “The trend is toward more handcrafted looks and things that look like they are made from natural materials, whether they are or not,” Adams said. “Objects that have a natural appearance are extremely important. “People are also looking for pieces that are somewhat unique,” he continued. “If they can’t afford something that is truly unique, Twisted Cable coffee table wears a concrete top. New designs from Currey & Co., such as this table lamp, show the use of what Creative Director Cecil Adams describes as a “drier, natural finish,” a key look going forward for the company. 18 HOME fashion forecast
