CMA’S BIG NIGHT According to Tennessee hairdresser Jayson Morgan of Studio Gaven, near Nashville, big hair is back on the country scene, but with a tamer, more contemporary twist. MODERN’s Alicia Liotta chatted with the 16-year hair veteran about the looks seen at the Country Music Awards and the styles his clients are asking about. —-Alicia Marantz Liotta “Amy Winehouse brought back big hair. We are taking that and cleaning it up a bit,” says Morgan. “We’re playing with volume, but we’re keeping fringe flat and smooth, and creating volume at the crown, sides or in the curl.” Morgan thinks Carrie Underwood is too blonde, but says she is going in the right direction with wave, texture and fullness in UNDERWOOD the curl. “With a trim it would be just right.” Country sweetheart and chart topper Taylor Swift wore a soft, low chignon that rested at the nape. The soft falling pieces and waves finished off her look. Swift’s volume was subtle at the sides to give the SWIFT illusion of the hair being lifted away from the head.
