A recent show mounted by Studio 5 Models in New Jersey featuring models ranging in age from nine to 16 showed that simple works. Celebrity stylist Paul Ferraro and upand-coming show stylist Michael Lynn created looks to complement tweenand teen-friendly designs by Krazy Kat, Teaching Togs and Jou Jou Sportswear. The most interesting look: a long, side-swept ponytail that was actually a Hair U Wear extension. After the show, all the girls clamored for it! –Maggie Mulhern PROMO MEN’S GROOMING DAY American Crew is giving guys their props on the 17th of this month— the first annual Men’s Grooming Day. The company has registered the celebration day with “Chase’s Calendar of Events,” the authoritative listing of events worldwide, to encourage salons and barbershops to host grooming events while creating awareness of the importance of male clients. American Crew cites a survey by Euromonitor International that predicts overall sales of men’s grooming products will reach a total of $19.5 billion by 2008. Sales in the U.S. alone are nearly $5 billion. American Crew plans to promote Men’s Grooming Day on the Jumbotron in New York’s Times Square and will hand out 30,000 mini-jars of Pomade, Fiber Molder and Forming Cream at Grand Central Station. Distributors and salons will also be hosting their own celebrations. Participating salons can enter their event to win a prize package and feature on the American Crew website in September.
