Modern Salon - August 2007 - (Page 68) FAUX RAZOR This fall hair trends are still all about texture, from long layers to choppy bobs to a textured pixie, demonstrated here by Kentucky’s Bennie Pollard. “Over the years, to achieve texture we would use razors,” he says. “But what made the cuts so cool also trashed the hair and shredded the ends.” Pollard’s new technique creates texture in an unconventional way that protects the hair while giving the illusion of a razor cut. It’s a technique he whimsically dubs “the Knucklebuster.” Model Danika arrived with long, damaged unstructured length. She wanted a change and a big one at that. “I had really short hair once before and I loved it,” she said. “Being a model in Los Angeles, you always think you need to have long locks. But I’m ready for a different look, something more adventurous, more edgy and more fashion forward.” With this technique, says Pollard, you can take your pick: create change or spice up a shorter ‘do.
