Horst Ackermann and Barry Sanders Belvedere USA, a former subsidiary of Proctor & Gamble (P&G), has been sold to two senior managers, Horst Ackermann, president; and Barry Sanders, vice president of finance and administration, and is now privately held. Following the transaction, Ackermann assumed the title of principal/CEO and Sanders serves as principal/president. The transaction includes the Belvedere plants in Belvidere, Illinois, and Mexicali, Mexico, as well as 10 design studios operating throughout the United States. Belvedere Canada, a separate business entity, is under evaluation and is not included in this transaction. Under the new ownership, Belvedere, based in Belvidere, Illinois, since its founding in 1927, will continue to market and distribute both Welonda and Belvedere-branded salon furniture and Wella large appliances and continue design project commitments for P&G Professional Care customers. Other key management members including Larry Kane, Eric Lewine and Steve Wilcox will remain with the company. “Today marks a new day for Belvedere USA—its employees, its customers and its brand,” said Ackermann. “We believe that Belvedere as a company is now better positioned to serve all segments of the professional hair stylist market, and an 80-year tradition of a great American company will be upheld and improved upon.” P&G PROFESSIONAL STRENGTHENS MARKETING, ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS Proctor & Gamble Professional Beauty brings together its marketing capabilities across both the exclusive-line and open-line business to strengthen its local initiative planning and commercial innovation portfolio. Rick Hasselbeck has been named marketing director for North American Professional Care and in that capacity, will be responsible for Rick Hasselbeck marketing approaches and systems and capability development for both open and exclusive-line businesses. He brings a track record of success and a wealth of P&G marketing expertise to the professional portfolio and is based in Woodland Hills, California. Martin Kaufmann has been appointed to the position of associate director for North Ameri- Martin Kaufmann can Professional Care Open-Line business. Kaufmann started his career with Wella AG in 1994, later joined Gillette and most recently was associate marketing director for the Braun male grooming business. A top performer in both the sales and marketing areas, Kaufmann is based in Stamford, Connecticut. Concurrent with the restructuring, Bill Decker, senior vice president, marketing and business development for P&G Professional Care Exclusive Lines will retire from the company effective August 31. Both Hasselbeck and Kauffmann will report to Kevin Otero, general manager, P& G Professional Care North America.
