Learn the ABC’s of Sassoon Cutting Sassoon Academy has launched a new technical cutting manual, ABC/Cutting Hair the Sassoon Way, that outlines the three fundamental tenets of Sassoon cutting: lines, graduation and layering. Series A focuses on cutting lines of various angles and lengths, Series B demonstrates building weight and length with graduations and Series C emphasizes layering and combining shorter internal lengths with different external lengths and weights. The book contains technical diagrams, 12 classic techniques and a section on consultation and the psychology of hairdressing. The ABC manual is available alone or in combination with a DVD series. Salon professionals invited by Matrix to a performance of “Legally Blonde—The Musical” participate in a Q & A session with the play’s cast. MATRIX TAKES STYLISTS TO BROADWAY Dennis Bernard Expands Smart Solutions Dennis Bernard, Inc. is launching a new 12-oz DualAction Crème Sulfate-Free Shampoo (DCS) and an 8-oz Dual-Action Crème Conditioner (DCC) as part of the company’s Smart Solutions professional hair care brand. This introduction follows the recent launch of the brand’s quick-drying, non-flaking weightless Flexible Holding Spray. The entire line is formulated with plant extracts that include chamomile, sage, rosemary and nettle to protect and maintain color. “Our niche is simple,” says company president and CEO Dennis Bernard Campanaro, “a brand developed by hairdressers, for hairdressers that is salon-professional, diversion free, priced lower than comparable products and formulated with quality ingredients.” Hairdressers figure prominently in the Broadway hit “Legally Blonde—The Musical” and Matrix’s Vavoom brand is the official beauty sponsor of the Tonynominated theatrical event. On August 8, Matrix invited 500 stylists to a special performance just for them. Most of the guests were dressed in hot pink and were greeted by look-alikes of the show’s lead character Elle Woods and the play’s salon owner character Paulette. More than 100 students from Empire Beauty School were also in the audience. Following the performance, the hairdressers attended a question and answer session with the cast and learned that Vavoom, Matrix Men, Sleek.look and Amplify products are all used by the show’s stylists backstage. L’Oréal Professionnel Debuts Texture Expert L’Oréal Professionnel artistic partner Recine styles models for the debut presentation of the company’s Texture Expert luxury styling products. L’Oréal Professionnel introduced Texture Expert, its newest luxury styling line, at a two-day press event at New York City’s venerable Carlyle Hotel. The line includes 16 products designed for specific textures: Fine/Limp, Medium/Thick and Coarse/Rebellious. The three Texture Expert formulations were demonstrated by L’Oréal Professionnel artistic partner Recine on models wearing haute couture creations by designer Zac Posen.
