Modern Salon - December 2008 - (Page 63) ZOTOS www.zotos.com Most people associate breast cancer awareness with pink ribbons, mammograms, luminaries, charity walks and benefit concerts. Zotos International, though, rallied support for the cause in a less traditional way—through hair cuts and raffles. On October 20, Zotos kicked off two weeks of fundraising for City of Hope, a leading cancer research institute where more than 300 physicians and scientists work to find the causes of and cures for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Zotos began its fundraising event with its 6th Annual Cut & Color-a-thon. The two-day event held in Artistic Institute Salon in Darien, Connecticut was open to the public and attracted local and renowned hair stylists, who volunteered their time and expertise to provide superior cut and color services at a discounted price. Stylists from prestigious salons such as Hopscotch of Greenwich, John Thomas Salon of Darien and Greg & Tony of Westport were on board this year to help raise approximately $2,300. The annual employee raffle was the most successful fundraising event of the month. Dozens of corporate vendors and community businesses contributed cash and prizes that were turned into luxurious prize packages for the company-wide raffle. Employees purchased more than $9,000 worth of raffle tickets in hopes of winning highlycoveted prizes such as a 50-inch plasma TV, roundtrip airline tickets, a Nintendo Wii console, weekend getaways, laptop computer and more. Due to record-breaking participation at its four corporate locations, Zotos raised an extraordinary $11,900 for the City of Hope. This is in addition to the $12,500 Zotos donated earlier this year to the foundation through other marketing initiatives. As a veteran supporter of charitable causes, Zotos has worked with many local and national foundations over the years such as Nina Hyde Foundation, Locks of Love, and American Cancer Society. With the holiday season approaching, Zotos is looking forward to their annual toy drive in support of St. Luke’s LifeWorks, a foundation that helps improve the quality of life for individuals and families affected by homelessness, HIV/AIDS and mental illness. ANDIS www.andis.com The extended Andis family reaches its arms out to its community. Whenever there’s a need, the Andis family is happy to help, and there are many ways that Andis gives back to its surrounding communities. Locally, the company participates in an annual fundraiser for United Way and is a corporate sponsor of Wisconsin 4-H Foundation and Racine Relay for Life, benefiting American Cancer Society. Andis also proudly supports many other not-for-profit entities within the Racine community. To encourage excellence in the field, Andis sponsors barbering competitions. Recently, the company began donating a portion of sales from its Pink Pro Duette Pivot Motor Combo to breast cancer research. “One of the donation programs we’re most proud of is sending clippers, trimmers and blades to U.S. troops all over the world,” says Matt K. Andis, executive vice-president. “It all began with a request through our website from a soldier in Iraq. We’re just happy we can help. America owes these guys so much.” The Andis family extends holiday wishes to everyone in the beauty industry. May we all think of ways to help others during this season of celebration and joy!
