Salon Today - May 2008 - (Page 20) [FASHION SENSE] Worth a Look X Xena’s Beauty Company, in New York’s Greenwich Village, recently celebrated 15 years in business—no small feat in The front window of Xena’s announces Manhattan’s concrete jungle. the salon’s 15th anniversary. When it came time for celebrating, owners Xena Parsons and John Galietti involved their entire staff in creating a plan for promoting Xena’s success. “We held a brag meeting,” says Parsons. “Staff members developed methods to brag about which services they specialized in and some of their creative outside interests.” After the “brag” meeting, Parsons and her staff came up with a way to celebrate the salon’s anniversary and help clients have a better understanding of the staff and the salon’s services—a look book. “In our Look Book we list all of our services, products and prices. For our introductory Look Book, each stylist was given a page to share image ideas and their schedule and pricing,” says Parsons. “We loved the book so much our next step is to renovate our website to match it.” The Look Book also features 15 helpful tips for clients like: “Mornings and middays are a great time to have your hair done;” and “Our hair ornaments are special quality and to die for!” For more information on Xena’s, visit www.xenasbeautycompany.com Xena’s Look Book has proven to be a helpful tool for staff and clients alike. ASK THE EXPERT: What About the Bob? Q. THIS MONTH, WE ASKED Traci Sakosits, regional creative director from the Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, “How can I make a standard bob more interesting?” A. “As Vidal himself has said, one of the hardest things to do is a first-rate bob,” she says. “If you pay attention to details like bone structure and facial features, you can find the perfect match between the client and bob. You can change the shape of the line to accent these features. A fringe can be added to make a dramatic change, as well. A classic bob can be made more interesting with a creative color technique. In our Creative Course at the LA Academy we teach students creative cut and color techniques to get the look of a bob in a very modern way.” 20 | May 2008 www.salontoday.com http://www.xenasbeautycompany.com http://www.confirmtextsalon.com http://www.confirmtextsalon.com http://www.salontoday.com
