Salon Today - May 2008 - (Page 48) [OWNER TO OWNER] Sonna Brado Jaazz Salon and Skin Care Center Spokane, Washington MY FIRST JOB IN THE INDUSTRY: Was at a small salon in Seattle called Villa Coiffures. I was scared to death to color hair, and my boss asked if I could cook. “Of course I can cook,” I said. “Then you can color hair,” she replied. MY CLIENTS LOVE MY SALON BECAUSE: We have a friendly atmosphere where they can feel confident going to different stylists due to our training program and salon philosophy. MY BEST PROMOTION: The 4 Hands Foot and Facial Treatment. This consists of a guest receiving a facial and pedicure at the same time in one of our treatment rooms. I GET INSPIRATION FROM: Nature, architecture, fashion and also from some of the newest staff on the floor. Their passion and creativity as newbies is awe-inspiring. THE BEST JOB PERK I OFFER MY STAFF: Is probably educational trips. Through competitions and salon position, we’ve been able to send or take staff to Italy, New York, San Francisco, Miami, Las Vegas, Chicago, Dallas, Greece, Spain, cruises and more. MY FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR IN THE SALON: Is fall. People are ready to change. Summer is over and people just seem more excited to try something new. OUR BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE TECHNIQUE: Is what we call our guest journey. It is a script for the entire experience the guest will have from the time they enter the salon until they walk out the door. From greeting and consultation to shampoo and scalp massage through the cut, finish, product recommendation and pre-booking, it’s an experience we want each guest every time they come to the salon. “We think we can be the friendliest salon in the world, and that’s one of our goals.” MY INDUSTRY HERO IS: Sam Brocato. He’s been instrumental in the growth of my career and business. From his book, Beautiful Business to just being around him and working with him, he has definitely made me a much better owner. THE BEST CONTINUING EDUCATION CLASS I EVER TOOK: Was “Roots and Wings” by Vivienne Mackinder. It opened my eyes to a different way of building shapes, and just the pure artistry and work that goes into creating. 48 | May 2008 www.salontoday.com http://www.salontoday.com
