These high-profile owners spoke about distinguishing themselves from their competitors and catering to beautysavvy clients. Awards Night The two days of education and networking culminated with the awards ceremony honoring the best salons in the world. Television personality Leeza Gibbons served as the emcee and this year, legendary stylist and salon owner Jose Ebér was honored with GSBA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Actress, model and host of Shear Genius Jaclyn Smith—a longtime client of Ebér—presented him with the award. Paula Kent Meehan was honored as the GSBA founder and the GSBA panel of judges and sponsors presented the winners their awards. The following evening, attendees enjoyed “A Hollywood Affair” party at the Renaissance Hotel where they rubbed elbows with the most prominent salon owners in the world. During the event, owners got down to business with hard-hitting education designed just for them. The business forum featured many powerful speakers including keynote speaker Mark Thompson, author of Success Built to Last, and Dr. Al Osborne, senior assistant dean at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. This year’s event also featured a special panel of celebrity stylists, in keeping with the Hollywood theme.
