Salon Today - October 2008 - (Page 10) [RECEPTION] Green Chic I In an increasingly green-friendly atmosphere, customers appreciate businesses offering eco-friendly options. Embrace the movement with Rebagz. Handcrafted from recycled juice packs and nylon rice bags, these playful totes come in a variety of sizes and are a stylish, yet quirky, alternative to the average reusable bag. Help the environment, and product sales, by encouraging customers to use—and reuse—their Rebagz. For ordering information, visit www.halftheskydesigns.com. MARKETING ALL-ACCESS INVITE GIVE YOUR GUESTS AN IRRESISTIBLE REASON to attend your salon’s event by announcing it in a way that will make them feel uniquely privileged to be invited. Follow in the footsteps of Seven salon in Seattle and create an all-access pass for your guests. Nothing makes a person (or potential client) feel more excited about heading to your salon than being invited to an exclusive event and treated as a VIP with all access. ASK THE EXPERT: BRAND AWARENESS Buzz Worthy Q. A. We asked Bayou City PR’s Sharon Dotson, an expert in small-business marketing, “How can my salon gain more exposure within the community?” L A good way to gain exposure is to really take advantage of your local media. Have you recently hired a new stylist? Go to www.elance.com and hire someone to write a press release for you. Then, submit it to the community newspaper in your area. Be sure to include an attractive image (preferably a headshot of the stylist or of the salon). Need another reason to spread the latest news about your salon? Consider sending out a press release to announce a new product, service or salon event. —Sharon Dotson Owner and operator of Bayou City Public Relations in Houston www.bayoucitypr.com Looking to create some good buzz about your business? Partnering with a local artist or jeweler can boost your salon’s presence in the community and offer your clients an updated look. Take a cue from Sally Zarlinga, owner of Lucia’s The Salon. She teamed up with a local antique dealer who showcases several different chandeliers and leaded glass windows in her Lyndhurst, Ohio salon. “Not only has this provided me with beautiful decor, but he displays them on consignment so I don’t have to pay for them,” Zarlinga says. Every few months, she changes the displays to give clients something new to discover. 10 | October 2008 www.salontoday.com http://www.halftheskydesigns.com http://www.elance.com http://www.bayoucitypr.com http://www.salontoday.com
