CardioVascular Care Through innovation and excellence, the CardioVascular Program at MetroWest Medical Center cares for the heart of the MetroWest community. It is our mission to give high quality diagnostic and treatment options while providing seamless care. MetroWest Medical Center is the only hospital between Boston and Worcester that offers comprehensive healthcare services provided by a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team with advanced training in caring for patients with cardiovascular disease. Our program includes advanced technology, personalized care and expert staff working to locate, identify and treat cardiovascular conditions. In addition to offering treatment, MetroWest’s commitment to the community includes education and prevention. The hospital offers frequent free seminars for the public on cardiovascular disease and related issues, such as diabetes, obesity and smoking cessation. Cardiovascular disease includes three major medical conditions: Coronary Artery Disease (heart disease), Cerebrovascular Disease (stroke), and Peripheral Arterial Disease (abdomen, legs and feet). Treatment of these diseases may range from management of risk factors to surgical procedures. The same risk factors that may contribute to a heart attack or stroke are the same for peripheral arterial disease. These include, but are not limited to, the following: • smoking • hypertension (high blood pressure) • diabetes • hyperlipidemia (high blood cholesterol) • obesity • family history of cardiovascular disease Other vascular diseases include less common arterial problems, disorders of the veins (venous thrombosis, varicose veins), lymphatic (leg swelling) and associated conditions. Preventive control of risk factors, medical treatment, diagnostic tools and direct minimally invasive or surgical treatment are now applicable to most heart and vascular diseases previously managed by separate specialties. MetroWest Medical Center has brought together people and resources into a single program designed to provide expert, personalized and convenient care to the needs of each patient with heart and vascular disease. Whether you are at risk for developing cardiovascular disease, have been diagnosed with cardiac or vascular disease or need information about cardiovascular disease, MetroWest Medical Center provides a full range of outpatient and inpatient programs to meet your needs.
