Invasive CardioVascular Procedures In addition to basic preventive and medical management of cardiovascular conditions, the multidisciplinary team of the MWMC CardioVascular Program provides state-of-the-art minimally invasive cardiac and endovascular interventions as well as modern surgical procedures tailored to treat each patient’s needs with minimal risk. Care following interventions is supported by a full staff of medical and surgical specialists and intensive care facilities at both MWMC campuses. MetroWest Medical Centers’ CardioVascular Program offers minimally invasive as well as surgical procedures on an elective (planned) or emergent (24/7) basis including the following: Cardiac Arrhythmias – evaluation and treatment of the electrical structure of the heart: • Electrophysiology Study – is a procedure that test the heart’s electrical system. • Ablation Procedure – a procedure that uses a catheter to locate and eliminate heart cells that are causing a rhythm problem. • Pacemaker Insertion (PPM) – is the implantation of a small electronic device in the chest (just below the collar bone) to help regulate electrical problems of the heart. • Internal Cardioverter Defibrillator Insertion (ICD) – is the implantation of a small electronic device in the chest (just below the collar bone) to help regulate electrical problems of the heart associated with syncope, inherited heart diseases and survivors of sudden cardiac arrest. • Biventricular Pacemaker and Internal Cardioverter Defibrillator (BiV) – is a pacemaker or ICD that is implanted which synchronizes the pumping of the right and left lower chambers of the heart for patients with severe congestive heart failure.
