Letter from the President of the AAVC
It was a great honor for me to be one of the speakers at President
Bradley's inauguration ceremony in September. I had the chance
to speak on behalf of Vassar's passionate and committed alumnae/i
who work to ensure that the college continues to set an example
of excellence. So to alumnae/i who wonder "Will the new Vassar
President know what makes us unique?" or "Will she get us?"
I am happy to report that the answer is yes.
She shares our passion for Vassar and has launched an energetic
outreach to alumnae/i-via emails, calls, meetings, and outreach
via social media (on Twitter: @ehbvassar). It is clear that her thoughtfulness, wisdom, vision, and deep commitment to community will
continue to strengthen Vassar's standing as one of the nation's
leading colleges.
As this new chapter in Vassar's history begins, I continue to be
excited by the energy and effort that I see from our alumnae/i. This
year, AAVC is delighted to honor Frances "Sissy" Tarlton Farenthold
'46, P'75 with the Distinguished Achievement Award; Dr. Marguerite

"Maggie" O'Haire '08 with the Young Alumnae/i Achievement or
Service Award; Dr. Jeffrey Brenner '90 with the Spirit of Vassar Award,
and Professor Emeritus of Political Science Glen Johnson for the
Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award.
The AAVC Recognition Committee (ARC) is currently accepting
nominations for the 2018 Alumnae/i Awards and we look forward to
learning more about other exemplary alumnae/i, faculty, and staff.

2018 Alumnae/i Awards: Call for Nominations
Deadline: Monday, December 11, 2017
Alumnae/i, faculty, and staff are welcome
to submit nominations for any of the award
categories listed below. Final decisions will
be communicated to award recipients in the
first quarter of 2018. Nominees will not be
contacted about their status unless they
are an award recipient.

The AAVC currently bestows
five awards:
Distinguished Achievement Award
- presented to an alumna or alumnus who
has reached the highest level in her or his
field, including the professions, science,
the arts, and public affairs.
Outstanding Service to Vassar College
Award - presented to an alumna/alumnus
in recognition of her or his extraordinary
commitment, leadership, and service in
promoting the goals and highest interests
of Vassar College and AAVC.
Spirit of Vassar Award - presented to an
alumna or alumnus who has demonstrated
extraordinary and distinguished leadership,
contribution, and commitment to serving
a community in which they effect positive,
transformative, societal change.

Young Alumnae/i Achievement or Service
Award - presented to an alumna or alumnus
recognized for either their extraordinary
service to Vassar in any aspect of alumnae/i
engagement OR for their exceptional
personal and professional achievement(s)
within their respective field.
Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award - presented to a faculty or staff member who has
demonstrated exemplary service, leadership,
and commitment to engage with alumnae/i
and current students through a range of
programs, initiatives, and activities over a
period of years.

Eligibility Criteria

 Emeriti, tenured faculty members, and
staff are eligible for the Outstanding
Faculty or Staff Award, regardless of
whether or not they attended Vassar.
 Nominees cannot be current members
of the AAVC Board.

Submission Requirements
 A nomination letter that includes a brief
description of the candidate's background, accomplishments, and why
the candidate is deserving of the award.
 The candidate's resume/CV or a link
to online biographical information.
 Additional information (such as articles,
letters of support, etc.) may also be
submitted, but not required.
 Incomplete nominations will not be
considered.

 Must have matriculated at Vassar and
earned credit toward one of its degrees.

Submit a nomination:

 Only alumnae/i celebrating a Reunion
Year ending in "3" or "8" are eligible for
the 2018 Outstanding Service to Vassar
College Award.
