The campus was abuzz with activities the day
before Commencement. This year, the
Baccalaureate Address was delivered by
Feminista Jones (aka Michelle Taylor), a social
worker, activist, author, and recipient of a
Black Weblog Award for Outstanding Online
Activism. As is tradition, the day before
Commencement, alumnae/i of Asian-Pacific
Island descent presented seniors with red
satin stoles, and black alumnae/i bestowed
upon seniors traditional kente cloth to wear
over their graduation robes. Veterans in
Vassar's Posse Program also celebrated their
achievements. And those who had
risen to academic distinction were honored
during the Awarding of Prizes.

Below, a graduate wears a
cap gifted by the AAVC; it's
a reminder that Vassar is for
"a lifetime." AAVC banners
welcome new graduates at a
reception after the ceremony;
they join a community of
alums almost 40,000 strong!
