Cauthen, City Manager—Kansas City, Missouri On July 24, 2008 the Kansas City, Missouri Mayor and City Council unanimously adopted a Climate Protection Plan. The Plan is an important policy document with greenhouse gas reduction goals and measures to achieve those goals in City government and Cathy Cooke—Sacramento, California throughout the community over the next 12 years. Niki Gomoluh—Las Vegas, Nevada Our sustainability initiative committee includes members from all City departments who brainstorm new ideas and share the information with their departments for implementation. Green efforts include: constructing new buildings to LEED standards, water conservation, recycling and greater energy efficiency. Las Vegas was named American City of the Year by the World Leadership Forum, largely due to its leadership in sustainability—operating 90 percent of the city fleet on alternative fuels and building sustainability into the Centennial Hills recreational campus. Carol Johnson Phoenix, Arizona Phoenix is developing a shade initiative with the goal of creating a more walkable environment. We are also developing a Downtown Urban Form plan. CR Mcleod New Castle, Delaware We have launched a Green website— nccde.org/gogreen— that lists local green initiatives, green awards, and important links. We have also started a “Buy from your neighbor” program to encourage purchases from local farmers to help the economy and reduce emissions from trucking in produce. Who are you?
