Aquaquest, the Vancouver Aquarium’s innovative learning centre, is the only aquarium or zoo in the world slated for LEED Gold certification. Green features include a roof that harvests rainwater, low-flush rainwater toilets, recycled building and furniture materials, a convection-powered ventilation system and a living wall — an installation of live native plants adorning an outside wall of the building. The wall, which is nourished with the water harvested by the roof, provides insulation to the building and shelter to area birds and insects.
