The Winepress Magazine - Spring 2014 - 5

LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

GREETINGS,

MY FELLOW WINE ENTHUSIASTS!

S

JAYLENE MAROTTE Editor-in-Chief

pring is coming! With this season
change, we are hoping for more rain
throughout the Paso region. While there
were a few showers at the beginning
of February, it almost seemed like Mother Nature was
teasing us. Especially in the Central Coast wine country,
the low water levels and limited options for growers are
certainly cause for concern. Fingers crossed as we hope
for a wet spring.
The transformation that takes place in the landscape as
you drive through the rolling hills in Paso in the coming
weeks and months is simply breathtaking. The views
turn from a muted brown to vibrant emerald green
and a renewed sense of life
comes to the area. Spring is
my favorite time of year on
the Central Coast!

At this time of transition in
the weather and landscape,
we have chosen to focus
this Spring issue of The
CHRYSTAL TRENADO Winepress on women leading
Publisher
the Central Coast. This topic
is close to my heart as a female, wife and mother of two
young girls. This entire magazine, in fact, is solely the
result of a group of hard-working women - Chrystal,
Penny, Jacquelyn, Hayley, Jamie and myself.
While wine has for centuries been considered a maledominated industry, each year more women seem to
be moving into influential positions. The Central Coast

especially seems to embrace women in influential
positions more widely and more often than in other
wine regions. Why is that? Is there something about the
Central Coast that allows for success equally? I don't
know that there is one answer to this question, but
what I do know is that there are amazing women doing
tremendous work to make this wine region one of the
best in the world.
I hope you enjoy reading about these dynamic leading
women as much as we enjoyed writing about them.
After reading the issue, please visit our website and tell
us what you think. We look forward to hearing from our
valued readers and incorporating your feedback into
our work. As a relatively new magazine, we look forward
to the spring and all the new life it represents. With your
input, we can continue to grow and thrive, just as Paso's
beautiful wine country does each year. We appreciate
your support - you are the much-needed rain on
our vineyards!
Take care and drink more wine!
All the best,

Jaylene Marotte
