FIRST FRET SPECTOR BASS AUCTIONED FOR CAUSE Guitar maker Stuart Spector built a one-off bass that brought $3,100 at a recent auction to raise funds for the Atlantic Salmon Federation. For its body, Spector used walnut and old-growth redwood salvaged from apartment buildings in New York City, and its neck was inlaid with mother-of-pearl and paua abalone depicting an angler casting to a school of salmon. BOWL 4 RONNIE RAISES $36K The second annual Bowl 4 Ronnie Bowling Party, benefiting the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, was held November 4 at the Pinz Bowling Center in Studio City, California. Hosted by Eddie Trunk and attended by 300 rockers, bowling enthusiasts, and supporters, the event raised more than $36,000 for the Fund, now in its seventh year raising awareness and money for cancer research. Celebrity bowlers this year included Tom Morello, Dino Cazares, and John 5. SANTANA LENDS LICKS FOR INEQUALITY AWARENESS Carlos Santana and drummer/producer Narada Michael Walden recently teamed with singer/songwriter Jennifer Saran and Ladysmith Black Mambazo to create "Wake Up," a collaborative appeal to the world to address inequality and impoverishment.
