7) I install the low-E string as a guide for mounting the pickups. To
maximize tone and volume, each string must pass directly over its pole
piece. Also, I run each pickup lead to the control cavity as I install it,
starting with the neck position and ending with the bridge pickup.
8) For this guitar's three humbuckers, it's important to have the top of
each mounting ring level with the next, so the entire assembly
is flat and level in the player's "picking zone" and will not
interfere with their playing.
9) After the pickup leads and connecting wires were
positioned, I used a wiring scheme for three-pickup
guitars that provides tonal flexibility in layout with
four pots and a three-way selector. The instrument is
wired with the three-way switch controlling neck and
bridge pickups, each with its own Volume control, and
instead of two Tone controls, there's one master Tone while
