"I'm interested in working with
musicians who are as passionate
about their music as I am
about building guitars."
In the beginning, my two main guitars
were the 17" archtop and 16" archtop as well
as a few electrics that were favored by many
of New York City's pros like Mark Whitfield,
Mark Stewart, Ira Siegal, Kevin Kuhn, Kenny
Brescia, Joel Kipnis, Leni Stern, and others.
On any night of the week, I could go to a
club or Broadway show and hear my guitars
being played live; I was so grateful, and it really
helped me learn what musicians want, need,
and expect from a guitar.
When and how were you able to expand
After moving to Texas in 2002, I began to
develop new models, hire other luthiers, and
broaden the line.
What sets your guitars apart?
My designs and the fact they are built, top-tobottom, in my Texas studio. I continually refine
my designs, always working on improvements.
And we've always made guitars by
hand, with no imported parts;
from pickups to tailpieces,
practically everything is made
here in the shop.
Also, I'm always developing new models. For example,
the first 17" archtops I built
were off of the D'Aquisto
blueprint. I knew Jimmy
D'Aquisto - our families lived
in the same part of Little Italy.
When I started, I was basically
making a modern reproduction
of Jimmy's guitars. Then in the
mid '90s I started developing my
own patterns, my own f hole, and my
own shapes. I love designing and building guitars from scratch, top to bottom.
