NON-COPY CAT

The Ibanez Artist 2616CS
Guitars regularly surface that make
us reconsider history. This jazz box
is rarely seen, and revises the notion
that Japanese guitars of the "copy era"
were intrinsically inferior to American
models. | By Michael Wright

SILVER SERENADE

1968 Fender Vibrolux Reverb
Amp collectors swarm when they hear
words like "first year" and "golden
age," but a model from a short-lived
evolutionary crossroads - especially in

MICK JONES

Foreigner at 40
Founder/guitarist Mick Jones guided
Foreigner to dizzying heights of chart

sold, and legions of fans have earned
the band a place in pop-music history.

ES-345 Keeps Playin'
Later in his career, Freddie King later
preferred Gibson semi-hollows. One
was a '68 ES-345 used on his 1971
album Getting Ready, and it landed
in the stall of songwriter/producer
and Shelter Records co-founder Leon
Russell before being passed along so it
could keep making music.

They collaborate on a sound equal

rock, jazz, and soul - the spices that
make music from the region so tasty.
They're also longtime vets of the gear
