CST #2007274-20 oday the aromatic herb and its bluish-purple flowers are virtually synonymous with France’s Provence region, most notably in the high country, or Haute Provence. Its famous “Route de la Lavande” (Lavender Route) comprises literally thousands of violet fields along an easily explored 50-mile loop, which stretches from the Drôme River across the Plateau de Sault and Plateau de Valensole to the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. This blanket of purple is dotted by delightful medieval villages such as Arles, which inspired Van Gogh; Moustiers Sainte Marie, noted for its faïence ceramics; and Gordes with its Cistercian Abbey of Sénanque, founded in 1148 and still inhabited by monks.
