Relax on dreamy Greek islands
For most travelers, Greece is all about the islands. After all, Greece is made up of
approximately 3,000 islands and islets located in the Aegean and Ionian Seas. You
could easily spend months exploring this far-reaching territory. Whether you opt to
take a dip in the warm, crystal-clear waters of the Aegean or to sip a cocktail and eat
seafood along a harbor front, there's a laid-back cadence to island time.
Crete is Greece's biggest island and a destination unto itself. Hydra is another
favorite, due to its speedy connections to Athens and the Peloponnese. Mykonos
and Santorini, both well connected to Athens, are also favorites. Many of the islands
are volcanic, which gives them one-of-a-kind landscapes; Santorini is a striking
example. The Greek islands are made to order for cruising. Some are known for their
nightlife, while others are famous for their beaches and natural beauty. The bottom
line is their laid-back culture and emphasis on enjoying life.
Our Virtuoso shore experience takes us to the island of Corfu for a guided walking
tour of Corfu Town, one the most impressive cities in Greece, which was added to
the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2007. Next we'll drive to Paleokastritsa and
enjoy a tour of the 13th century monastery of the Virgin Mary. Finally, we'll enjoy a
mouth-watering lunch at Ambelonas Vineyard restaurant.
