Historic vineyards and modern charm
Bordeaux, both a city and a region in southwestern France, has long been associated
with the beloved wines made in the area. The region is home to more than 100,000
vineyards. The past decade has brought dedicated restoration and cleaning projects
designed to spruce up the beautiful city's eighteenth-century appeal.
The city is compact and walkable; its lively pedestrian area beckons with inviting cafés
and restaurants. Many sites, like the cathedral and the opera house, are located in the
historic center, and there is a thriving waterfront scene. If you get tired of walking, take
the sleek modern tram, which whisks you anywhere you want to go on three local lines.
Two chic and charming neighborhoods close to the center are worth visiting. To the
south is the Capucins-Saint-Michel district, known for great shopping and a gourmet
market. To the north is Chartrons, a trendy area with home and fashion stores.
When you are in Bordeaux, you will also want to experience the gorgeous French
countryside, with its lush gardens and vineyards.
