Swans Will Return Each year, one of the surest signs that spring has arrived is the return of Louis and Serena, Schaumburg's mated-mute swans, to their seasonal quarters in the pond at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center. Louis and Serena will return in late March or early April and will quickly begin building their nest in anticipation of the arrival of their cygnets (baby swans) around Memorial Day weekend. Although aesthetically pleasing, the swans were purchased to control the inundation of Canada Geese at the municipal center. The swans mate for life and live up to 25 years. They were named by Schaumburg school children. 4 SPRING 2009 http://www.friendshipvillage.org http://www.prairiecenter.org http://www.villageofschaumburg.com/environment http://www.villageofschaumburg.com/environment
