People from across the state of Illinois will be attending this conference. Currently, 61 Illinois cities are involved with 108 sister cities agreements in 39 countries on six continents. The purpose of these accords is to foster exchanges of information and people to enhance the development of bilateral trade, investments, tourism, science, technology, education, and culture. Not only do these agreements raise the presence of Illinois abroad, they also encourage important trade and cultural benefits for the State of Illinois. Schaumburg recently celebrated its 25 year relationship with Schaumburg, Germany. It also has a Sister City relationship with Namerikawa, Japan.
