The Odlum Standpipe is a 6.3 million gallon water storage tank located southwest of Schaumburg and Barrington Roads and had not been repainted since it was built. The tank was built in 1991 as part of Schaumburg’s water system improvement program to obtain Lake Michigan (Chicago) water. The tank is 127 feet high and 92 feet in diameter. Work consisted of draining the tank, removal of the existing paint, small repairs, and repainting. The tank was contained with a very large canvas shroud to protect the surrounding area from any paint or debris. Work was completed in May and the tank was put back into service. communication open with the community to identify and solve problems. We believe that as a result of our community policing efforts and deployment strategies, crime in Schaumburg remains low. The department is committed to providing the highest level of service to the community. For 2012, the department looked to alternative funding sources to increase and improve technology in order to maximize operational effectiveness and officer safety. The following are highlights of department successes for 2012: • Worked closely with Northwest Central Dispatch, ID Networks, and the village Information Technology Department, on the transition to a new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. The new CAD system is now provided by the same company that provides our Records Management System (RMS). All new computers were installed in the police vehicles to replace the much older models. • Purchased an entirely new video strategy to include the latest in-car video systems and body cameras. It is believed through the use of the latest video technology available, video evidence can be obtained and provide a higher level of officer safety. The entire cost is being paid through a $300,000.00 grant provided by the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO). • With the elimination of the Ford Crown Victoria police vehicle model, a committee was formed to determine the make and model of our future fleet. After much research, four new Ford Interceptor Utility (Explorer) all-wheel drive vehicles were purchased and are anticipated to arrive in early 2013. With the amount of equipment and technology currently being installed in the police vehicle, having the additional room and the entire vehicle temperature controlled were W I N T E R 2 0 1 2 The Schaumburg Road at Barrington Road Intersection Improvements project consisted of the widening and resurfacing of the Schaumburg Road and Barrington Road intersection.
