UNCENSORED EVALUATIONS FROM THE GAMECENTER EXPERTS

HARDWARE OF THE MONTH

For players to see what their 4K HDR TVs
can do, the Xbox One X lives up to its hype.
quickly, but to really feel its power you need a
newer 4K HDR television.
The console itself is a bit smaller than last
year's Xbox One S, yet it still incorporates an
internal power supply. Thanks to some wellengineered ventilation and sealed liquid cooling, the One X still runs cool and virtually silent,
as long as you give it room to breathe.
More than 150 games, old and new, are
slated to take advantage of the Xbox One X's
enhanced power. In addition to older games
that have been patched, all upcoming first-party games such as Sea of Thieves and Crackdown
3 will do so, as will a large number of third-party
offerings like Dragon Ball FighterZ and Code Vein.
Developers can choose how to take advantage of the One X's additional power, siphoning
it for native 4K HDR graphics or channeling it
toward performance enhancements. Some
games, such as Gears of War 4, even give play-

ers the choice between increasing visuals or
performance, depending on what the player
wants to prioritize.
In addition to games, the Xbox One X also
acts as a powerful media player. It includes an
Ultra HD Blu-ray player (the same as is in the
Xbox One S) and streams 4K UHD programs
from services like Vudu. The console can effortlessly take center stage in your media center.
If the Xbox One X (and Sony's counterpart,
the PS4 Pro) prove to be successful, look for
more game consoles released as incremental
upgrades. For years, PC games have been developed for the most powerful machines on the
market, then scaled down to run on less powerful systems, a very viable business model.
With the Xbox One, a game you purchase for
your original system or your Xbox One S will still
be playable when you upgrade to the One X.
From now on, your game library won't become
obsolete, but instead offer new features.
So if you own a 4K HDR TV or plan to buy
one in the future and have been thinking about
adding an Xbox One to your entertainment system, you can't do better than the Xbox One X.
