WE CHOOSE THE YEAR'S BEST GAMES
FOR EVERY GENRE

We always look forward to our Game of the
Year awards. However, this year, we enjoyed
so many fantastic playing experiences that we
had difficultly choosing our winners. For every
game mentioned here, two, three or even five
more just missed the cut; consider them worthy
of your time and attention, as they likely would
have won honors in other years. To recognize
as many great titles as possible, no game was
eligible for more than one award. We tried to fit
them in where we thought they most deserved
acknowledgement. We hope you have enjoyed a
number of these great games and you will find a
few more here to try.

BEST SHOOTER

At a time when the Chicken Littles of the
world are proclaiming the end of single-player
games, along comes a shooter - perhaps
the most multiplayer friendly genre - that
features only a solo campaign. Wolfenstein II:
The New Colossus continues the story of B.J.
Blazkowicz and his fight against the oppressive Third Reich. In this alternate universe, the
Axis powers won the war and have occupied
the United States. It's 1961 and the resistance
continues, taking players on an adventure
that includes some new and (literally) far out
locales. Not only does the game feature some
of the best first-person shooting action ever to
grace a console, the story offers depth, pathos
and even a little bit of humor. Levels vary
between unrelenting firefights to stealth infiltrations, and they never fail to raise your pulse
and keep you interested. Anyone who enjoys
a great, mature shooter should absolutely give
Wolfenstein II a run.
