T

his September, Lara Croft will finally
reach her last stop on the road to
becoming the Tomb Raider.
Square Enix's action-adventure game
Shadow of the Tomb Raider will mark the final
adventure in Lara's origin story, which kicked
off with developer Crystal Dynamics' 2013
reboot Tomb Raider. While the former
developer helped with this latest effort,
it passed the reins to Deus Ex: Mankind
Divided's Eidos Montreal. As such, expect a
few changes to this final entry in the trilogy,
including new gameplay mechanics and the
darkest story yet.

When first jumping into Shadow, players will be
met by a determined and vengeful Lara. With
the truth about her father's death fresh on her
mind, she has spent months hunting down the
nefarious group Trinity. But in her rage-fueled
quest for justice, Lara unwittingly sets off the
Mayan apocalypse. According to Crystal Dynamics brand manager Chris Johnston, Lara's
fateful decision is just one of the many trials
she'll face. "She's going to have to learn that her
choices have serious consequences," he said.
"It's these choices that she makes throughout
this final game that will ultimately define her as
the tomb raider she's meant to be."
