MOTION CONTROLLERS
Motion controllers are special
devices that recognize gestures
in addition to - or in place of
- buttons to control a game,
translating your movements into
onscreen action.
The Nintendo Switch comes
with a pair of Joy-Cons with
built-in position tracking that
can be used together to provide
complex motion controls or
separately so that two (or more)
players can experience simpler
motion controls individually.
The Xbox One has the now discontinued Kinect 2.0
peripheral. This allows for gesture control with some games,
as well as general control of the system through both gesture and voice.
Sony's Move uses both a PlayStation camera and a
dedicated wand controller to track your movements. The
company has incorporated this into their new PlayStation
VR system, which also uses the camera, to make for a more
immersive experience.

MEMORY CARDS
Memory cards are portable storage
devices that plug into a gaming
console so players can save their
progress. As nearly all home consoles
now come with built-in hard drives,
these cards aren't as important as
they once were. The exception is the Nintendo Switch, which
only comes with 32GB of built in memory, and really needs a
larger memory card to store games and game saves.
The same is true for Nintendo's handhelds. Though the
Nintendo's 3DS system comes with a 4GB Micro SD card,
owners will want to upgrade that to accommodate digital
content and downloaded games.

STRATEGY GUIDES
Strategy guides are special books
that help players complete specific
games. Publishers work closely
with game developers to learn
about secrets and strategies, then
create an exhaustive step-bystep manual loaded with detailed
playing tips for each game mode.
Strategy guides often include
chapters on the basics of gameplay
as well as advanced tactics that
may not be immediately clear to beginners. If a game has a single-player campaign, the guides
often feature detailed walkthroughs on how to beat each level
for users to reference if they get stuck. In addition, guides frequently focus on how to uncover secrets, allowing readers to
discover things they might have otherwise missed. Strategy
guides are a great companion to any game purchase.
