Austin Meeting Planner Guide 2008-2009 - (Page 19) CONVENTION FACILITIES AUSTIN CONVENTION CENTER At the corner of Trinity and Fourth streets is an elegant glass atrium, which serves as one of the main entrances to the Convention Center. It contains a single prefunction space, 152’ x 60’ x 90’ high. The primary functional link between the exhibition halls on level one and the ballroom/meeting space on level four, this area is the terminating view from public spaces in the building on both levels. Since the center opened its doors to the public on July 4, 1992, nearly 6 million people have attended thousands of events. Conventions pump millions of dollars into the local economy. Another measure of success is the fact that clients are returning year after year to the center. Since the facility doubled in size, about 30 percent of the conventions now represent new business. The expansion helped launch redevelopment in downtown Austin. Several new upscale restaurants and hotels have opened within walking distance of the facility.
