Austin Official Visitors Guide - Fall/Winter 2007-2008 - (Page 6) Get to Know Austin You’re sitting at a coffee shop on South Congress Avenue, sipping a latte and perusing the morning paper when you stop to take in the scene buzzing around you like the caffeine entering your system. A young couple sitting across from you, the hipster aesthetic in full swing, relives the best moments from the show they saw last night at Emo’s. To your left, a man and a woman dressed in pinstriped suits talk at length about politics at the State Capitol. And at the table to your right, two sinewy cyclists debate the legacy of Austin’s favorite son, Lance Armstrong. All the while, a constant parade of UT students sidle up to the counter, order drinks made from freshly roasted beans and chat up the baristas about the neighborhood news. And that’s when it strikes you: this is the essence of Austin — its eclectic nature captured in the context of just one local coffee shop where the everyday becomes extraordinary.
