Chicago Meeting Professionals Guide 2008 - (Page 14) GETTING TO CHICAGO ©Weaver/Denise Chambers hicago has two airports served by more than 60 airlines. Some 50 Amtrak trains arrive and depart daily. Four major expressways lead to the city center. So no matter where your attendees are coming from, they’ll find it eminently easy to get here. C Two Airports to Serve You Chicago lies at the center of the nation’s rail and interstate highway systems, making it easily accessible on the road and rails for millions. But Chicago’s main transportation benefit is its air service. In fact, more than 60 different airlines service Chicago, helping make flights in and out of the city more cost-competitive than those of most major U.S. cities. Because of Chicago’s high volume of flights, air travel to and from Chicago is less expensive than most major U.S. cities. O’Hare International Airport has been voted Best Airport in North America seven consecutive years by readers of Business Traveler International magazine. Among the world’s busiest airports, O’Hare handles more than 200 direct international flights and 2,600 direct domestic flights daily. Midway International Airport, just 10 miles from downtown, accommodates more than 818 flights a day. After an $800 million redevelopment project, Midway has become one of the nation’s fastest-growing airports. Enhancements include a new terminal and additional gates, as well as better check-ins, baggage claim and concessions. Navigating the City Getting around Chicago couldn’t be simpler. Attendees who fly in can ride to downtown quickly, safely and easily on the rapid transit rail lines for $2. Or they can take one of 6,500 cabs or hire a limo from dozens of companies. In addition, cab riders can request discounted shared rides between the airports, downtown and McCormick Place. After checking into their hotels, attendees can set out on foot to experience this active downtown at street level. Depending on the hotel, it’s an easy walk to dining, shopping, entertainment and cultural attractions. Plus, REFER TO AIRPORT MAP ON PAGE 160 14 Chicago Meeting Professionals Guide
