I am pleased to invite you to experience the exciting events and activities that make our city a great place to live and visit year-round. Start with the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, an impressive addition to Chicago’s skyline opened just last fall, and visit the museum’s inaugural exhibition, The New Authentics: Artists of the Post-Jewish Generation, running through April 13. The Spertus now offers an environmentally sustainable building with a modern glass façade, more exhibition and program space, state-of-the-art resources including a 400-seat theater and a children’s center, and a kosher café. Throughout the year, explore the history and wonder of the Garfield Park Conservatory during its Centennial. On April 13, come for special birthday festivities at this spectacular garden under glass, combining Jens Jensen's unique landscape architecture with art, architecture and engineering innovations. Looptopia, America’s first dusk-until-dawn cultural celebration, returns for its second consecutive year on May 2. This free 15-hour-long event features more than 100 downtown venues and 300 artists offering various performances and events including many that are family friendly. Enjoy arts, antiques and culture during Artropolis 2008 (April 25–28) at the Merchandise Mart. Its four shows include Art Chicago, a contemporary and modern art fair, and The Merchandise Mart International Antiques Fair, featuring more than 100 top dealers. During the 10th annual Great Chicago Places and Spaces (May 17–18) experience stunning architecture citywide. The free lakefront festival season begins May 30 with the Chicago Gospel Festival at Millennium Park. Celebrating its 25th year, the Chicago Blues Festival takes place the following weekend at Grant Park, which hosts Taste of Chicago in late June. Outdoor fun also includes dancing under the stars at Chicago SummerDance.
